The Burgh Le Marsh website was launched by Keith Butters of Bowhunter Websites in 2000 to promote Burgh Le Marsh as a place to live, shop, visit and stay.
Thank you to the members of the Burgh le Marsh Town Council in 2000 for their support and generosity in launching the Burgh le Marsh Website.
The Burgh le Marsh Website seeks to promote the community of Burgh le Marsh. It is financed primarily by the businesses in and around the town. The Webmaster thanks all the businesses and organisations who have contributed to the project.
The Webmaster thanks Barry & Jenny Robinson for encouragement and help in the creation of this site. Barry initially developed www.cherrywillingham.org.uk
Thanks also to Kev. Cooper for encouragement, help and technical support.
In Burgh le Marsh many people have been very helpful by way of support, encouragement and practical help, we particularly thank:
- Eileen Chantry who wrote and put together the ‘Focus on Burgh’ booklet
- John Panton BEM for the drawing of the Windmill which is used as the Burgh le Marsh Website logo
- Joyce Seabrook for further resource material
- Pete Read (family butcher now retired), the first to register, for his support and encouragement
- Peter Rushton now retired (Raise Bakery) for his honest comments and very helpful ideas
- Jim Jamieson for his encouragement, proof reading and support.
A special thanks to Sylvia Blight who helps to keep the Burgh le Marsh Website up to date with current news.
Keith and Janet Butters (founders of Bowhunter Websites and burghlemarsh.info)
Over the years much of the sites content was provided and curated by Burgh resident Sylvia Blight…
I became involved with the Burgh website in 2002 which came about by contacting the then webmaster Keith Butters on behalf of Burgh W.I. who were enquiring about a webpage for the W.I. and were the first W.I. in England to go online. Keith Butters asked if I would like to be the Assistant webmaster which involved covering Burgh’s Latest News researching Burgh History and answering enquiries from our “readers” from home and abroad. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time doing the website and have attended many prestigious events in the process and delving into Burgh’s past has been interesting and fascinating. It has been a truly wonderful experience. Thank you, Keith, and thank you also to Chris Drew for my brief time as your Assistant webmaster.Sylvia Blight (Assistant Webmaster burghlemarsh.info)
Built To Last
Businesses pay a modest annual fee for their own page which effectively sponsors the rest of the site’s content from free pages for groups, and clubs to the publicising of events and writing of articles etc. For their money each business receives a professionally built web page on the town’s leading website exposing them to tens of thousands of website visitors every year.
This sustainable business model has kept our sites live and current for many years whilst those relying on funding and/or the enthusiasm of amateurs tend to come and go. You can also be assured we have no political motives or personal agenda – it’s just good, honest business.
burghlemarsh.info Website Redesigns
burghlemarsh.info has had a few redesigns since 2000 and has seen the introduction of Responsive Web Design (websites that can display on small screen devices like the iPhone), Content Management Systems (where pages are built on demand by pulling the content from a database and inserting it into a template), Secure Certificates (encrypting the communications between the web server and your device) and much more.
Initially it had to squeeze data through slow dial-up connections before enjoying the luxury of high speed broadband only to see mobile users starting to browse the web on slower connections making speed a priority once more.
We have also witnessed the rise – and seemingly now the beginning of the fall – of Social Media which presented both an opportunity and challenge for small local businesses.
In 2018 MGC Websites Ltd acquired Bowhunter Websites and it’s assets including the Burgh le Marsh website. The site was relaunched in 2019 running on a highly modified Content Management System to make it more feature rich and more efficient to update than any of it’s predecessors.
