Burgh
W.I.'s first meeting of 2006 featured Mr Steve White from the Lincolnshire
Film Archive who explained the techniques used to preserve old film
often very damaged and scratched and showed a film of this restoration
which demonstrated painstaking delicate and rewarding work when life
is reproduced in 5000 frames of film.
He
then showed a selection of films depicting life at the turn of the 20
th century with the opening of the Municipal buildings in Boston , 1904,
followed by the oldest film made in 1901 of the Grimsby trawlers; the
date was established by researching the names of the trawlers. Many
have no titles and the dates are established by clues in the film's
content.
An
advertising film of Ediswan electrical products, a wartime incendiary
bomb disposal demonstration, the 1953 Louth floods and surrounding area
and the 1947 99 th Lincolnshire Royal Show completed the fascinating
presentation.
