It was announced at the Gloucestershire Federation Annual Council Meeting on 22 nd March that Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall is to join the Women's Institute and will be a new member of Tetbury W.I. which is close to her home at Highgrove

Burgh W.I. wishes to extend their welcome to The Duchess of Cornwall, who becomes the latest member of the Royal Family to be a member, following Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary and the Queen Mother. The Queen is the present president of Sandringham W.I. and the Princess Royal is an associate member in Gloucestershire.

The Duchess became interested in the W.I. when the former National Chairman, Barbara Gill, who sadly died last November, visited Clarence House last June with the original Calendar Girls of Rylstone W.I. in Yorkshire and was impressed with their initiative in doing the famous Calendar project which was instigated to raise money for charity.

A letter was sent to The Duchess of Cornwall by Sylvia Blight, as sub-webmaster of Burgh le Marsh website and also as Vice President of Burgh W.I., welcoming Her Royal Highness to the Women's Institute organisation on behalf of Burgh W.I. and expressing a wish to put an article on the Burgh website.

A reply has been received giving Her Royal Highness's approval and best wishes for the website article.
