The Associated Country Women of the World

Each month the W.I. competition is held to raise money for The Associated Country Women of the World.

The WI. movement has from it earliest days built links with rural women worldwide and encouraged its members to engage in issues which are of international concern.

ACWW is the largest international organisation for rural women and is active in over 70 countries.

ACWW is an international non-governmental organisation working closely with the United Nations.

ACWW's priorities with the UN are:

  • The status of women
  • The status of the girl child
  • Health
  • Education and Communication.

ACWW Aims

  • Raising the standard of living of rural women and families through education, training and community development projects

  • Providing practical support to members – helping women's groups set up income-generating schemes.

  • Supporting educational opportunities for women and girls, and the elimination of gender based discrimination.
  • Giving rural women a voice at international level through links with UN agencies

ACWW is helping to improve water supplies in rural

communities.  Currently there are ongoing water

projects in South America, Africa, the Indian sub-continent, the Far East and South Pacific, providing

  • water tanks
  • bore wells
  • hand pumps
  • sanitation facilities

Wells are dug for irrigating vegetable gardens

and the surplus produce is sold at local markets.
