Rev. F.L. Blathwayt
Parson & Naturalist
|
Professor
Trevor Kerry of Lincoln University gave a fascinating presentation to
the Burgh W.I. members, of the life of Rev F.L. Blathwayt, one of the
great parson naturalists, who lived from 1875 – 1953.
From
a very early age his hobby was bird watching and he kept copious and accurate
notes and drawings of his studies, covering the three counties of Lincolnshire
, Dorset and Gloucestershire, which he carried out throughout his lifetime.
But
the intriguing aspect of Professor Kerry's talk was how he discovered
a small article by Rev F.L. Blathwayt over 30 years ago when he was a
warden at Hartsholme Country Park and upon his retirement researched the
naturalist and explained how he detected each snippet of information on
Blathway's life culminating in the publishing of his book “Of Roseates
& Rectories"which has subsequently brought about even further
information.
Professor Kerry's dedication to this project was truly inspirational.
