Jane Allenby - Teddy Bears

Jane Allenby, speaker at July Burgh W.I. meeting, gave a brief history on the origin of The Teddy Bear and as a collector of teddy bears for many years found the hobby becoming very expensive and decided to make her own bears. Many are kept for her collection but she also makes them to order for friends and clients.

As well as a large display of her bears Jane brought samples of the different type of fabric, fillings and eye and joint components which are all used to create each bear, and brought one in the making on which she demonstrated various techniques. Every bear is unique with their own characteristics. It is very time consuming, very absorbing and was fascinating to watch her expertise.
