| Rodney
Cousins, formerly assistant curator of the Lincolnshire Rural
Life Museum , was the guest speaker at this month's Burgh W.I.
meeting and gave a fascinating talk and slide presentation on
“Dutch Lincolnshire”, which illustrated the Dutch influence and
links on and with Lincolnshire .
Mr
Cousins gave examples of architecture with slides of Tattersahll
Castle and buildings in Boston having brickwork and building styles
which originated from the Netherlands as well as live stock, the
Shire horses and Friesian cows , food products such as Fray Bentos
and Geest bananas and household products manufactured by Uni-lever
all have the Dutch connection.
Windmills
generally associatiated with Holland were, however, an English
invention which the Dutch adapted to move water from one level
to another.
In
the absence of Margaret Williamson, delegate of the Spring Council
Meeting at the Embassy, Pamela Vessey read out her detailed and
well expressed report. |
