Burgh Le Marsh W I: Being A School Matron

Burgh W.I.'s speaker Margherite Clarke eloquently entertained members with her experiences as a School Matron. On placing an advertisement in a well known ladies' magazine for the position of a Nanny with “a strict discipline routine” received over a hundred replies from various countries but definitely not for the occupation that she had advertised!

She was Matron both at a boys school and a school for young ladies and diplomatically maintained her standards in conjunction with respecting cultural creeds.

Margherite was the epitome of a professional school matron, strict, but at the same time a lady, unshockable and having a quiet sense of humour on the less ladylike situations.

Elizabeth Hamilton gave her delegates report on the annual W.I. Resolution Meeting held at Wragby, explaining the subjects in detail. This year's issues for members to consider to put before the government are:

To raise public awareness of the unfair difference between the retail prices of milk and the price paid to the farmer”.

To lobby manufacturers, retailers and decision makers to reduce waste in the production, packaging and transportation of public and consumer goods."

The annual bursary draw of £150 and two £12 awards for educational purposes were won by Elizabeth Hamilton, June Smith and Glennis Rogerson respectively.
