AWHITU WOMENS INSTITUTE

1 ST DECEMBER 2005

This was the last meeting for the year and as Christmas was drawing near it was PARTY TIME.

We had invited local people to join with us and share a happy time.

Instead of our usual roll call where we have a theme, we had sing – say or pay 50 cents to keep quiet. Most of us had something to say, but Cora sang to us ‘Always', we all enjoyed that.

The meeting closed at 12noon and a delicious lunch was served.

Gifts were distributed to all after lunch, and then the Drama Group put on some items. The 1 st being a humorous song about getting married called ‘GOING TO THE CHAPPEL' with Colleen being the Bridegroom wearing a suit and Top Hat, Dorothy the Bride wearing her veil and carrying her Bouquet.

This item got some laughs, but the next bracket of songs were more serious, DIXIELAND JAZZ.

3 rd  CAMPTOWN RACES.

Next was the Dutch Auction which is always popular and people getting quite excited not knowing what they are biding for. This raises quite a lot of money which can be given to good causes

Then came the drawing of the raffles, our regular one and the most important one THE HACKETT MEMORIAL CAKE RAFFLE, which was won by FAYE BELL. This raised $347 for the Trust.

Afternoon tea was served, bringing a most enjoyable day to a close.

Hackett Memorial Trust Raffle

In 1972 the first raffle was instigated to raise funds for the TRUST, so 33 years later we are still asking you to support this cause.

So there is a story to tell: Mrs Grace Jeffries' son, Peter, had a brain tumour and needed Neurosurgical treatment. While he was in hospital his mother heard about the Hackett Memorial Trust. So she baked a Christmas cake, Hilary Atchinson iced it. Grace organised the raffle through C.W.I. and the money went to the trust. Up to the year 2002 $3732 has been raised.

Fred Hackett was a member of Parliament and died of brain tumour and his family arranged the Trust.

The Awhitu Women's Institute thank you for your participation in this raffle.
