Burgh le Marsh gained town status in 1401 when it was granted a market charter. With changes in agriculture it reverted back to a village. In 1992 Burgh le Marsh regained it's town status with the election of its first mayor. Therefore the Parish Council became the Town Council.

Council Meetings

are usually on the last Friday of each month, excluding August & December, after December 2007, meetings of the Council and its committees will be in the Community Complex, in the High Street.

OPEN SESSION..
Members of the public are most welcome at council meetings and have a chance to ask questions to the council at Town Council Meetings. There is a 10 minute open session prior to the commencement of the meeting.

Matters cannot be debated but can be noted for discussion at a later date.
