BURGH
LE MARSH TOWN COUNCIL
Date:
3 rd September 2007
Subject:
Confusion over fund raising appeal.
Recently
a fund raising appeal was launched, by the Burgh Residents Action
Group (BRAG), asking local people to help pay for planters, window
boxes, and railings etc. which would enhance and beautify the town
centre. Whilst the Town Council supports the appeal, it has learnt
that some confusion has arisen regarding the contents of the mailing.
The mailing contained an appeal letter from BRAG, and a newsletter
from the Town Council. These are unconnected items, from different
organisations.
BRAG, and the Burgh Forward Group, are separate and distinct organisations,
although both exist to help promote and improve Burgh for its residents
and visitors.
The Town Council invested £6000 into the Heritage Economic Regeneration
Scheme (HERS). This scheme operated in Tattershall, Woodhall Spa,
and Wragby, as well as Burgh, where it had two goals.
Firstly
to provide funding for the restoration of commercial property
within
the Conservation area.
Secondly
to provide funds to enhance the public street scene.
The
way the funds were apportioned, was beyond the control of the
Town
Council, and the street furniture, which it now wants to see
installed,
could not be covered by HERS.
The
Town Council's investment of £6000, has returned tens of
thousands
of pounds worth of improvements to Burgh.
