Sandra
Nicholls, a resident of Burgh, is very much involved with the
Heavy Horse Centre and also has connections with the famous,
now retired, racehorse, Desert Orchid. She has managed to combine
the two interests by achieving one of the nominated charities
this year from Desert Orchid's Open Day to be The Heavy Horse
Centre and also for Jacob, one of the Heavy Horses, to be present
at the Open Day.

Sandra
has written the following report:
A
very special invitation arrived at the Northcotes Heavy Horse
Centre Nr.Great Steeping for one of the residents to attend
Desert Orchid's Open Day held recently at Nick Pomfret's Stables,
at Norton, Nr. Leicester.
Jacob,
the percheron, was chosen and went along with John and Terena
who did a wonderful job getting Jacob ready for his big day.
|
He arrived
causing great excitement among the visitors and later went along
with Desert Orchid and his jockey, Colin Brown, into the ring
for Desert Orchid's Special Auction, the proceeds of which are
given to various nominated charities. Northcotes is to receive
a donation this year.
Midge Burridge, co owner of Desert Orchid, and Mr. John Hippisley
assisted the proceedings.
John
rode Jacob and he joined "Dessie" meeting the crowds
with great aplomb, the atmosphere was positively buzzing with
excitement and when "Dessie" and Jacob posed together
for the cameras it certainly was a sight to behold; two greys
together, a thoroughbred and a mighty percheron side by side
in complete harmony, yes, a truly memorable day!

Readers
are able to go and visit Jacob at Northcotes every day except
Saturday during the months July and August, he will be only too
happy to inform visitors about the Very Special Day he went to
meet Desert Orchid.
