Tennyson Poem by Val Matthews Ashley

Tennyson

I'd like to talk about Alfred Lord Tennyson, but I'm not sure what to say,

I've seen the memorabilia, Somersby and Bag Enderby churches,

and walked the Tennyson way,

I've seen photos of his family, his home on the Isle of Wight ,

The statue in the grounds of Lincoln Cathedral, is quite an awesome sight.

His summer home at Mablethorpe is still standing, quite close to the beach,

That vast expanse of golden sands, that is always within reach-

Why oh why did he leave Lincolnshire, when it was such an inspiration, I should like to know,

What happened to his family, are there any descendants, if so.

Do any of them write poetry, perhaps in a different name?

If he could return and walk the hills, he'd find it just the same

The beauty is still there, for everyone to see,

Looking through a poet's eyes, truly magical it can be.
