Haven Lea Crew Tales

Introducing the “Haven Lea” Crew

Tizzy, a Papillon, she is six, rather like a Victorian maiden Aunt, all she needs is a pair of gold rimmed spectacles on the end of her long disapproving nose, she bustles around, likes a good grumble does Miss Tizzy, keeps everyone in order.

Next comes Sophie, Pughund, she is two. Now Pughund is a Pug/Daschund, rather a mishap occurred there. She has a long body is very round with short, stumpy legs a curly tail and looks adorable, a natural born Prima Donna is our Sophie.

Finally comes Barney Russell, he came on board last year; he was rescued after our dear Jack Russell, Buster, died. He has developed into quite a handsome chap, rather wilful, always eager to please. They greet visitors with great enthusiasm; some unwary souls have been literally floored by the experience.

There is never a dull moment at “Haven Lea”.

Barry who tries valiantly to keep us all in order came home the other day and had a rather unexpected surprise. I have a rule, all toys to be tidied up at teatime, well one was overlooked and when Barry came through the door he trod on the dreaded Kong, he went sailing across the kitchen ever so gracefully I have to say, and landed right beside the kettle, very useful as I was ready for a cup of tea. Three little people were nowhere to be seen, they had retreated to parts unknown and reappeared some time later looking rather sheepish. I was none too pleased either that they had deserted me in my hour of need as I received a lecture for all of us. I have to add that no harm was done except perhaps to Barry's dignity. All is peaceful as I write after an earlier battle for the bean bag; Tizzy was the victor seeing off all comers. Weather dull and dreary so all have the grumps today.

Sophie brought a ball to me earlier and sat looking hopeful when I explained about the weather she stomped off, upset Sophie and we all know about it, not one of those days again I hope.

Well readers, soon be lunch time, no doubt everyone will emerge then. I should explain that I am slightly disabled and preparing myself lunch is no easy task. Tizzy, Sophie and Barney all line up ready to catch what should be on my plate, it is like Wimbledon in our kitchen when a slice of ham wings its way across the kitchen, they are all anticipating which way it will go, as for yoghurts after doing numerous laps around the table the top finally agrees to come off with a whoosh and the contents are liberally distributed around the kitchen and all over us, alright for them but somehow I never seem to end up with much lunch! I try to do kitchen duties too, a spell of trying to peel a few spuds later, now that really is fun, Barney usually retreats under the table and watches from a safe distance, Tizzy settles for her basket while Sophie sits on the chair and hopes for the best. I did offer protective headgear but it was declined, they didn't reckon wearing a colander did much for their street cred, potatoes hurtling around the kitchen at high speed can be rather unnerving, I then have to set to and retrieve them from the most unusual places.
