A New Year always prompts the looking back of the last 12 months of 2011. These are events that I have personally been involved with. |
Skegness & District Seniors Forum Events: Saturday 5th March our Skegness & District Seniors Forum in partnership with Skegness Youth Centre, ELDC & Skegness Police held an intergeneration event at the Algitha Methodist Church which was most enjoyable involving preparing food in a hygenic way with the youngsters (Hands washed and put under an ultrviolet light system to ensure they were washed perfectly ) and then enjoying the prepared meal together with various competitions. |
We also held a Fun Day event at the Skegness Youth Centre on 27th July which Jolly Fisherman attended being his 103rd birthday. I was involved with giving information/leaflets on the Digital Switchover and providing feedback on the public's queries and comments. |
| Norah Coles was invited to speak at the Forum's February open meeting with the topic of Possible Imminent Flood Risk, and as Norah had personally experienced and been involved in the rescue work of the Louth 1953 Floods gave her most interesting and vivid account of that time. As a result of her talk Norah was invited to give her talk at Gibraltar Point on 13th April which I attended with her and we were amazed that in the audience was a Mother and Daughter from Sutton on Sea who were rescued and featured in Norah's talk! Norah also gave her talk at Longhurst Lodge Residents Assoc on 23rd May which I also attended with her. |
| On Friday 20th May and Tuesday 31st May the forum held Silver Surfer Days at Skegness Business Centre and at Connexions Prince George Street. |
Saturday 1st October - at St Clements Church Hall to celebrate National Older Peoples Day and Lincolnshire Day another most enjoyable event with the Seathorne Primary school choir giving a delightful performance, Andy Steeples singing old time favourites and Doreen Brothwell's Keep Fit Group giving their keep fit performance followed by an audience participation session. Also with Lincolnshire snippets and a Lincolnshire Quiz for the Lincolnshire Day theme and a delicious buffet lunch made a very entertaining and fun occasion. |
| The forum has unfortunately now folded after 9 years and provided information to the over 55's and was involved in projects such as the safety and regulations of mobility scooters - instigated by the forum, and was responsible for the installation of the central reservation at Wainfleet Road Skegness also for implementing the bus service to the Hawthorne Medical Centre and involved in the concept of First Contact, a telephone helpline for seniors. |
