| A Little of Burgh's History Comes to Light |
Whilst
having lunch in The Fleece we met Mike and Pat Fowler who were
visiting Burgh from Bedfordshire. We were talking about family
tree history and websites and when I mentioned our Burgh website
Mike and Pat said that they own a seat which was once on Burgh
Railway Station and they have kindly sent a photograph of it to
add to our “History of Burgh”. |
From
Mike Fowler:
I
acquired the seat in 1970 not long after the station and line
closed. Since then it has been restored and for the last 12 years
has been inside our conservatory. It would have been on the platform
from a few years after the opening of the station in 1848 though
the cast iron name plate would have been fixed in after 1923 when
the LNER took over from the GNR. Initially I had a name plate
only and later sold that when I had the opportunity to buy the
seat. I think there would have been three or four seats though
they may have been in a rotting state as I had to replace some
of the timber in my example. |
