Review of Burgh 2006-2008

At the beginning of each new-year we find ourselves looking back at life over the past and recent years, which has prompted me to itemise the social and economic changes in Burgh le Marsh just over the last two years all of which have been published on our website.

The most important event was the construction of the Bypass, which has been decades in the coming. Burgh Action Group held a peaceful public demonstration which made the local television news and once the bypass was completed a community walk by over two hundred local residents "christened" the two mile stretch followed by a celebratory tea at the village hall, and not forgetting the official opening of the bypass.

Father Terry Steele:

On Sunday 22nd April it was announced that Father Terry had been asked by the Bishop of Lincoln to become a Canon and Prebend in the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln.

Father Terry accepted the invitation and he was installed in the Cathedral during Evensong at 5.30pm on the feast of St Hugh, 17th November 2007

Under the Heritage Economic Regeneration Scheme Burgh benefited with the installation of new railings at Cock Hill and in the town centre. The Cock Hill Railings are depicted in our 2009 Latest News banner.

We have made friends via website enquiries from New Zealand , Australia and Utah , America who have all subsequently visited Burgh, our Australian friends, Liz & Les have visited twice and we hope they will be able to come again this year.

Two wind turbines have been erected locally and the enormous construction vehicles were also featured.

Sadly we saw the closure of a very historic building, Burgh Hall in April 2008, as well as current news the Burgh le Marsh website covers Burgh's historical past depicting photographs of Burgh from the early to mid twentieth century and also published in 2008 a special article on Bishop Tozer.

A community project to formulate a 10 year plan for Burgh was set up in 2008 and its progress will be reported accordingly.

Of course Burgh has its traditional annual events such as the July Carnival and Summer and Christmas Fayres, Mayor's Civic Service and Father Christmas.

Burgh le Marsh is a wonderful community and has an abundance of Community Spirit which hopefully is apparent in the coverage of our town's events.
