History Group - visit to RAF Digby

Burgh le Marsh History Group were transported back in

time when they visited RAF Digby.

As they entered the

Operations Room museum,

housed in a bunker that can withstand the force of a 500 lb bomb,

the impact was immediate with the voice of Vera Lynn creating

the “wartime” ambience.

During WWII a total of 50 squadrons

operated from RAF Digby,

and W/O David Curry itemised all the various types

of aircraft giving technical details.

Warrant Officer David Curry gave an excellent presentation,

explaining the strategy of the Operations Table,

and the State Board which is a visual aid to display

the operational status of the squadrons,

depicting all the stages from prior to a scramble

right through to returning back to base.

As well as the operations room, side offices,

all furnished in the contemporary wartime period,

displayed photographs, equipment

and all manner of RAF memorabilia.

The visit was topically planned to co-inside with

the 60th D Day Anniversary celebrations
