Burgh
Forward Group arranged “Showsongs Forty Years of Musicals” as the current
entertainment in their cultural programme, performed by The Skegness
Musical Theatre Company who were once known as Skegness and District
Operatic Society until the year 2000. A Skegness Operatic Society had
begun in 1935 but ceased to exist when World War II was looming. The
present society dates from 1965 and are therefore celebrating their
40 th anniversary. They have during that time presented a wide variety
of operettas, musical comedies and shows ranging from “ Me and My
Girl” and Rodgers and Hammerstein to “The Gypsy
Baron” and Gilbert and Sullivan
The
evening was packed with over 30 numbers opening appropriately, with
a rousing rendition of “Another Op'ning of Another Show” from
Kiss Me Kate and included “The Merry Widow Waltz” “Hello Young Lovers”,
“Some Enchanted Evening” and concluding the first half with
“ You'll Never Walk Alone”.
“The
Lambeth Walk” opened the second half with songs from “My Fair
Lady.” “Brigadoon,” “Half a Sixpence ” and a grand finale with
selections from “Oliver”.
The
group exuded “team spirit” and gave a wonderfully polished performance
which everyone enjoyed.
