| About the Burgh Forward Group |
| The Burgh Forward Group was formed
in October 2001 as a promotion of Burgh organisation and has been involved
with the arranging and implementing of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee
celebrations, planning a Thursday Market, and the promotion of The Windmill,
both of which are ongoing and very dependent on other bodies.
More recently the group has introduced a Cultural Programme featuring The Louth Male Voice Choir, James and Mayor mandolin duo, also St Peter and St Paul Primary School with their production of “The Wind in The Willows” and in October, “The Mozart Players” will give a performance at St Peter and St Paul’s Church. Burgh was granted a town charter in 1401 by King Henry IV but the original charter is missing, believed to be somewhere in Canada. Recent enquiries to obtain a copy have proved fruitful and it has now been transcribed by Cllr. John Panton BEM, onto parchment both in ancient Latin and with the English translation embellished with authentic mediaeval motifs and mounted in a glass frame. To commemorate the 600 years of the Charter a celebration took place in May 2004. |
